Cannabis as Medicine
Cannabis has been used as a medicine for thousands of years. As recently as 1937, cannabis was listed in the American Pharmacopia, but in 1938, political agendas of greed dominated, and a Hemp Tax was established, leading to the prohibition of cannabis in the US.
Over the past 25 - 50 years especially, we as a People have come to realize that cannabis isn't just good for a lightheaded buzz, giggles and munchies. In fact, cannabis is extremely beneficial for patients suffering from a variety of illnesses:
Neurological Diseases Fibromyalgia
Despite having clear and documented medical benefits, the US Government has kept cannabis in the CIA Schedule I, designated for drugs with "high potential for abuse" and "little to no medical use".
Luckily, many States have begun the push towards Federal acceptance of cannabis as a medicine. Currently, 23 States plus the District of Columbia acknowledge and integrate cannabis into their healthcare system. Those States are as follows:
-
Alaska
-
Arizona
-
California
-
Colorado
-
Connecticut
-
DC
-
Delaware
-
Hawaii

Illinois

As opposed to common belief, cannabis smoking is an acceptable and healthy form of intake. There are no studies that have linked cannabis smoking to lung cancer or health detriments, despite what prohibitionists say. In fact, the most recent study actually showed that cannabis promoted the health of subjects' lungs when smoked.
